LIA internship #2 with Sweco Architects
Arkitektur Termer. "Architecture terms" translated so the book tells me đ§
This book is my parting gift from Sweco Architects Uppsala after a fantastic 10-week internship as a building engineer. Thank you so much to those of you I had the chance to sit with, listen and contribute to. Internships are like gold to me! đ
A massive THANK YOU goes to my mentor Martin Hultén who has been so instructive, inspiring and great to bounce new ideas off of.
Martin is the leading construction engineer at Uppsala's gigantic, soon-to-be-realized, cinema and he is one of the absolute most important cogs in it's construction chain. The fact that Martin is great at this project but at the same time being part of Sweco's Digital Strategy team has been an advantage for me during my internship. We have discussed a lot about what the future looks like for us in the industry.
I have also contributed during this cinema project; planning and changes in Revit of facade drawings, interior walls, creation of schedules. I have been all around the 3D model and have an understanding of how it is built and organised. I realise that engineers work on the sharp side of the design process compared to architects and visualisers.
In the last couple of weeks I changed my focus a bit. Unfortunately, we are in a recession which makes it tough to find a job as a "pure" civil engineer. So I started and am now continuing to write my thesis on developing methods for visualising Revit models with as little duplicate or unnecessary work as possible. Creating presentation material from architects' models should be simple but create enormous value for everyone involved.
I created this VR presentation by linking Sweco's Revit model direct into Twinmotion to create the cinema's IMAX lounge which has a screen as big as a tennis court! People absolutely must experience it's enormity in virtual reality! You don't realise it on screen but behind the glasses you really get the feeling.
So the plan ahead... feet up for the long weekend, read my book, finish my thesis, take a trip with my daughter to the UK and then...
FIND YOU!
Those of you who want to benefit from my combo of skills đđš my CV is available on request!
So thank you Sweco Architects, Uppsala and also once again White Arkitekter. I really hope that the combination of building engineering and visualisation will be an attractive factor for employers when it comes to recruitment. Please let me know your thoughts through the usual channels...
